Patient ProtectionIn the last few years, patient protection has become an issue of public concern. With the discovery of the AIDS (HIV) Virus and the continuing problem with the Hepatitis Virus, health care facilities constantly upgrade the techniques of sterilization and disinfecting products to provide you with maximum protection. In our office, your safety is our highest priority. Throughout the day, we perform a number of sterilization procedures for your protection. Below are examples of these procedures.
- Before and after each patient's appointment, all treatment surfaces (i.e., countertops, chair surfaces, lights, x-ray machines, trays) are disinfected with the most effective and safest products available.
- To ensure your safety, we follow a number of standard sterilization procedures with all instruments. First, all instruments are taken to our lab and placed in an ultrasonic cleaner. The instruments and handpieces are then sterilized in a high heat hospital autoclave, thereby destroying all bacteria, viruses, including HIV (AIDS virus) and spores.
- Staff members use masks, safety glasses, and new gloves for each and every patient.
- Barrier techniques are used on critical work surfaces.
- Disposable products, whenever possible, such as plastic coverings, prophy angles, suction tips, and syringe tips are discarded after each use.
All staff members are trained in proper OSHA infection control and have been vaccinated against the Hepatitis-B Virus. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding infection control.
